Board of Directors

Clovis Veterans Memorial District is a special district that was established June 11th, 1946. The district is governed by an elected Board of Directors. 

Chairman Tom Wright

Tom Wright, Chairman

Tom Wright has held a veteran's seat on the Clovis Veterans Memorial District Board of Directors since 1975. A life long resident of Clovis, he spent 27 years in the newspaper business before becoming a school teacher and coach. He recently retired from teaching in Fresno. He has served as  the president of a number of community organizations and is currently president of the Clovis High School Alumni Association. He is active in the Clovis Rodeo Association, Clovis Historical Society, and Lutheran Church. He and his wife Nancy have three adult children and four grandchildren.

Director Don Watnick

Don Watnick, Vice Chairman

Don Watnick lives in Clovis and has been actively involved in the community for more than 35 years. He currently serves as a board member and treasurer of CenterStage Clovis Community Theatre and is a longtime member of the Clovis Exchange Club (a national service club) and a past member of the Clovis Rotary Club. He is a member of the Clovis Hall of Fame Council. He served 12 years as a Clovis Chamber of Commerce board member and remains a member of ClovisPAC. He was the 2009 recipient of the Chamber’s prestigious Einar Cook Award for Community Leadership. Additionally, he served as a board member during the initial development of the Clovis Botanical Gardens. In 2012, he served as treasurer for the successful Clovis Unified School District Measure A $298 million school bond campaign. Mr. Watnick owned and operated Sir Speedy Printing Center of Clovis from 1988 through 2009 and Director of Data Processing for Producers Cotton Oil Co. from 1980 through 1988. His military service includes four years active duty as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Watnick earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Boston University and is married with two grown children.

Director August Flach

August Flach III, Secretary

August Flach was drafted in June of 1968 and served until he was honorably discharged in June 1970 when he was placed on inactive reserve duty for the next four years. He and his family have resided in the Clovis area for thirty years where his sons graduated from the local school district. He spent 40 years managing teams of sales and customer relationship specialists in large-scale corporate environments. He has been dedicated to serving his country and community. He served as Commander of the VFW Post 3225, where he is still an active member. He has been an active member in AUSA, and helped coordinate VSOs in support and assistance of local programs.

Director Patrick Ruth

Patrick Ruth, Director

Patrick Ruth has been a Clovis resident since 1970. He attended Clovis High where he received a Baseball scholarship to play at Fresno State. Patrick was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1991, He is also in the Fresno State and Clovis High Hall of Fame. Patrick has served as a Director for the Foundation of Clovis Schools and the President of the Buchanan Foundation where He and his team organized the very first Military signing day in Clovis Unified history. Patrick is active with Clovis Rotary, Clovis Rodeo Association, VSOs, and Cross City Church. He enjoys spending time at Shaver Lake with friends and family. Patrick and his wife Lorie have two adult boys Dayne and Carson.

Director Heather Frantzich

Heather Frantzich, Director

Heather Frantzich has been a Clovis resident since 1973. She is a daughter of a Vietnam Veteran and our past Director, Susan Frantzich, who served 38 years as one of the Directors for CVMD.  Heather is excited to be able to continue her mom’s legacy as a Director.  She spent most of her career in TV and Radio as a Senior Account Executive.  In 2021, she had an opportunity to serve Clovis as the new Executive Director for the Business Organization of Old Town (B.O.O.T). Heather held the first-ever Military Appreciation Night in 2021 in conjunction with the Friday Night Farmers Market. She has also participated in Wreath Across America and has always been an advocate for the Veterans of the Central Valley. Heather is an active member of the  Clovis Rodeo Association and is on the City of Clovis Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC).  She enjoys spending with friends and family. Heather has two kids, McKenzie and Caden who are her pride and joys!
